If there’s one thing that we’ve learned, it’s that you don’t exist unless you’re online. So here we are – online and in existence with a fully-functioning website complete with free restaurant-themed stock photos.
Since this is the first update that we’re posting, we thought it might make sense to take a minute to catch you up on what’s happened prior to our web-birth.
Major milestones:
2012 – Jimmy asks Harrison if he’d like to write a musical as a way to keep in touch. Admittedly, Harrison initially rolls his eyes at the idea. However, the more they joke about the world of Lasagna Mañana, the harder it becomes to resist. They develop concepts for amusing characters they’d like to see interact as well as an overall theme for the show. The duo begins to video conference once a week on Google Hangouts and write write write.
2012 – 2013 – Jimmy and Harrison write write write some more more more. In addition, they learn the ins and outs of Google Hangouts (among other Google apps) and become pros of putting funny hats on one another during writing sessions.
2014 – An initial script is complete! Jimmy and Harrison find enough friends to test a staged reading via Hangouts to gauge the flow of the show. Jimmy begins to write music and Harrison begins to pick his favorite songs that Jimmy’s written (Sparks Fly ftw).
Early 2015 – Score is done. Harrison says, “See, Jimmy, that was easy!”
May 2015 – An amazing team of actors and improvisers volunteer their time to perform a staged reading of Lasagna Mañana at Harrison’s office. Some family and friends come out to hear the show and offer their feedback. Jimmy performs all of the music. This is the first time the team hears the show from start to finish with music and other performers speaking the lines. It begins to feel real.
Now – The team works to rewrite the script based on feedback from peers and the May 2015 reading. Having gotten to version 10 of the script and over 275 pages of music to edit and compile, they work until they decide to take a break and make a website. And Facebook page. And Twitter. And Instagram. We exist now!
